Hello, and welcome to Seok3v.com – because seokev.com was taken 😉
Seok3v has a better ring to it than seokev anyway don’t you think?
Seriously though, I wanted the domain SEOKEV.com, looks like a domainer has it, and there’s no way I’m paying through the nose for a domain, so I just took the next best option, but I think I like SEOK3v more anyway.
Is everyone in their mid to late 30s bored of their name or is it just me?
My name is a bit pants though… My brother was named after Andy Fraser (R.I.P) a rock star, and I was named after my older brother’s favourite story book, Kevin the Kitten!
But I’m Kev, unless I’m in trouble, usually with my mum, or my wife – or if my kids want to annoy me by calling me “KEVIN” instead of “DAD”.
And SEO is something I’ve done for years. I’ve written Ebooks on it, I’ve been an SEO manager for a digital marketing agency, I’ve been a freelance SEO consultant (still am, although I try not too as it’s too much like hard work) and I have been employed by companies to do their SEO in-house.
In fact I was once employed by a company to be their sales person, I pulled in hundreds of thousands in sales per year, earned a very nice salary, and little did they know that actually all I was doing was SEO, and then waiting for the phone to ring with sales (which it does) but anyway, they didn’t care as long as the phone rang.
But I digress. I do that, sorry. I have a bit of a short attention span oh look a squirrel.
Anyway, I know a bit about SEO, and I’m thick – which I think is very helpful. Confused? You will be 😉
What I mean, is that I’m not a Rocket scientist coder SEO nerd geek freak. No offence to anyone who is. I’m just your average normal person, who has about 16 or 17 years experience in SEO, web marketing and affiliate marketing.
What this means to you, is that if I can understand it, and implement it, then you certainly can – you’re probably way smarter than me.
This is one of the things I’ve often found when reading SEO websites, that the people who talk about this stuff, who know what they’re talking about, have a tendency to talk on their level, which for the average reader can be like trying to understand a quantum physicist.
I’m not a nerd, in any way shape or form. Not that I think there is anything wrong with anyone who is. If you’re a proper noggin, and you want really high level geeky stuff, then my blog won’t be for you.
All I’m interested in, is simple, effective strategies that small businesses, bloggers and internet entrepreneurs can use to grow their businesses. I want to share stuff like this, that you can go away and use, and benefit from with minimal head scratching, and preferably without falling asleep or dying from boredom. My aim is that if you read any of my posts, you will go away with the ability to make a positive impact to your blog / website in terms of visitors and profit.
I’m not interested in fluff, buzz words, the latest craze or flash in the pan shortcuts, just common sense tried and tested techniques that I have tested and I know to work.
The other thing that I think is different with me, is that I’m likely to be very similar to you regardless of where you’re coming from. There’s a good chance that regardless of where you are now, I’m in or have been in a similar boat.
If you have your own business and employ people, I’ve had this experience, more than once. If you work for a company and are trying your best to break out on your own, I’ve been there. If you are just starting a blog and you feel like you’re climbing everest, I’ve been there. If you’re a year or so into your blog and you’re just starting to make money with it I’ve been there. If you were a millionaire on paper one minute, and then nearly bankrupt and starting from scratch again the next minute, and it was all your own stupid fault but you think you might just blame the recession – I’ve been there.
So I don’t just understand SEO and web marketing, I understand business from the perspective of the business person, I understand blogging from the perspective of the blogger, I share the kind of stuff that I find helpful, in the real world, and I think you’ll find a lot of it helpful too.
If you’re wondering where I’ve been, well – I’ve been busy actually doing this stuff! I did have an SEO blog years ago, I had an SEO eBook out in the early 00s, which did quite well actually.
I was working with some of the big name web marketers back in the day, I was even featured in the infomercial for The Rich Jerk, which was filmed in Orange County California with the big mansion and the bikini models etc., that was fun! At around the same time I’d launched a business in an old fashioned traditionally offline market, the plan being to use SEO & email marketing etc., to build the business quickly in a market where most businesses were quite behind the times. It worked, way better than I ever imagined, and I became far too busy running a company to be blogging about it.
Lots of things have happened since then, I’ve had a web design and marketing company, I’ve worked for other companies, I’ve been on TV, I’ve been working with international celebrities, politicians, all sorts – I’ll bore you with that in a future post I’m sure ;-).
Thanks for reading.
